William H. Bailey (American, 1930-2020)

Bailey studied at the University of Kansas, Yale University, and Yale School of Art with Josef Albers where he received his BFA in 1957. He is known for his realistic still-life compositions in muted colors with visual subtlety; eggs and oranges are some of his earliest subjects during the 1960s-70s. His works are in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Art Institute of Chicago, the Hirshhorn Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Yale University Art Gallery and others. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship and was elected to the American Academy of Arts & Letters as well as the Academico, Academia Nationale, Santa Lucia, Rome, Italy.
