Dale Eldred (American, 1934-1993)
The influential chairman of the sculpture department at the Kansas City Art Institute for 33 years, Eldred was a pioneer in the use of natural and laser light He completed major public art projects around the world and his enigmatic works are in numerous Museum and public collections. This work is a visual collage; the basis being a bridge over the St. Lawrence River in Kingston, Ontario, over which Eldred superimposed an image he sourced from an industrial window-glazing ad. The result is a commanding futuristic vision of perplexing proportions. Kansas City's artistic community was stunned by Eldred's untimely death in a fall, at age 59, during a historic flood event. He is widely considered a visionary genius.
