David Hockney (British, v. 1937)

Hockney is surely one of the most beloved artists (a painter, opera set designer, printmaker, photographer, and more) of the 20th-century contemporary art scene in both America and the U.K.  He is considered a pioneer of the 1960s British art movement, and his career has been prolific.  His photo collages were a breakthrough in the use of polaroid photographs to create panoramic images.  He is also recognized for his early images of gay love and California swimming pools.  He has had major exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Royal Academy of Arts in London, and the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, among many others and is in the permanent collections of almost major art museum in America.  His high record at auction topped $90 million in 2018 and his work in all media is highly sought-after by private collectors and institutions alike.
