Luis Alfonso Jimenez Jr. (American, 1940-2006)
Born in El Paso, Texas, Jimenez stood somewhat alone in celebrating his Mexican origins and the culture of the American Southwest during a time when major artistic movements were occurring primarily in New York. He studied architecture and is possibly best known for his figurative fiberglass sculpture which honor the everyday lives of Latin Americans and he was also greatly inspired by Mexican history and politics. His drawings and prints are characterized by an assured hand that frequently fills up the page with his energetic mark-making approach to his images. His work is in important collections such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum, El Paso Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and many others.
Additional lithographs are available.
