Ellsworth Kelly (American, 1923-2015)
One of the most important and influential Minimalist painters, sculptors, and printmakers of the 20th century, Kelly's prolific career spanned seven decades. Kelly's approach was unique in that he drew a connection between pure abstraction and nature, from which he extrapolated colors and forms. His first solo exhibition took place in Paris, at Galerie Arnaud, in 1951. His successful career led him to retrospective exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art (1973), and other important solo shows at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and others. His work is in important museum and private collections worldwide.
