Wilbur Niewald (American, 1925-2022)
Professor Emeritus of Painting at the Kansas City Art Institute, Niewald is one of Kanas City's most beloved and legendary artists. His professional and artistic career spanned seven decades and he received numerous awards and honors. He was known for painting in Plein Air into his ‘90s, primarily around Kansas City's Penn Valley Park and Linda Hall Library. His long career included numerous solo exhibitions in the Midwest and also in New York. Public collections include the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. He received a John Simon Guggenheim award in 2006.
