Roy De Forest (American, 1930-2007)
Considered a part of the California Funk movement, painter and printmaker Roy De Forest was known for his humorous and textural images, in dense compositions in a folksy, storytelling style. He was also known as an influential professor at the University of California, Davis, from 1965-1992 when he retired as Professor Emeritus. A retrospective of his work was held at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in 1974 which also traveled to the Whitney Museum of American Art. His paintings and prints are in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, and many others.
