Sandy Skoglund (American, b. 1946)
Skoglund is both an installation artist and photographer, frequently mixing the natural with the artificial to create an elaborate and complex tableau. Born and raised in Massachusetts, she attended Smith College where she received a B.A. in studio art, following that she received both an M.A. and an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa. In her professional career, she first focused on painting and photographing food that she had manipulated in some way, and placed in complex visual settings. Her mature work produced her signature, somewhat surrealist photographs which are first elaborately created as a three-dimensional set that she can then photograph as a final product. Her works are in important collections such as the Dallas Museum of Art, TX.; Denver Art Museum, CO.; Weisman Art Museum, Minneapolis, MN.; Cincinnati Art Museum, OH.; and numerous others. Fox Games is one of her most well-known images, and is included in the important Hallmark Art Collection, Kansas City, MO.
