Pat Steir (American, b. 1940)
Known as a painter and a printmaker, Steir lives and works in New York. While her works align with both Conceptual Art and Minimalism, she is perhaps best known for her “waterfall” images which are dripped, splashed, and poured and convey a since of action. These works are also reminiscent of ancient Chinese paintings and techniques. She has been highly recognized throughout her career and had major exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Neuberger Museum, the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati, and others. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art among many others.
